Order your repeat prescription now and have a healthier Christmas

If you or a family member rely on essential medication to stay well, don’t put your health at risk, think ahead and get your request for important repeat medication into your GP or pharmacy in good time.

Christmas is coming and GP practices in East and North Hertfordshire will be closed at the weekends and on bank holidays.  GP practices will close at 6:30pm on Friday 22nd December and will re-open on Wednesday 27thDecember at 8am.  During this time it will be very difficult to obtain repeat prescriptions or find out about test results – so it makes sense to plan ahead.

Remember that most GP surgeries and pharmacies require at least 48 hours’ notice to prepare a repeat prescription.

Dr Hari Pathmanathan, Welwyn GP and Chair of East and North Hertfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group said: “Some patients get caught out over bank holidays, or before they go on holiday, realising at the last minute that they don’t have enough medication.  Get in touch with your GP surgery now if your prescription is due to run out soon.

“If you have relatives coming to stay with you over the festive period, please remind them to bring their medicines with them and help to avoid a medical emergency”.

Don’t forget, the telephone service NHS 111 is there for you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year if you urgently need health advice and your normal GP surgery is closed.  Calls are free and NHS 111 advisers and clinicians will help you to find the best service for your needs, whether that’s an out-of-hours GP appointment, emergency dentist or even a referral to A&E.
